Choose a preset or type each day of your repeating pattern. The letters matter more than the pattern’s name.
- Give day 1 a real date.
Use a date you know matches the first letter. Check a few familiar work days and days off in the preview.
- Make room for changes.
Mark individual dates as leave, off or a different shift. Print the calendar or take the dates to your calendar app.

How does the 4 on 4 off calendar work?
Enter W W W W O O O O and the first date of a four-day work block. The generator repeats that eight-day cycle forward and backward from your anchor date. For example, if day 1 is 1 January 2027, 1–4 January are work days, 5–8 January are off, and 9 January starts the next block.
Does this support continental, 5-5-4 and custom patterns?
Yes, with editable examples. “Continental” can describe different sequences; our preset shows a 28-day day/late/night example, while the 2 early / 2 late / 2 night / 2 off preset is explicitly eight days. The 5-5-4 example is 5 work, 5 off, 4 work, 5 off, 5 work, 4 off. Check every letter against your own rota. You can enter any repeating cycle of up to 56 days.
Can I make a printable 2027 shift calendar?
Yes. The default year is 2027, and you can choose 2020–2040. Generate your calendar, choose the full year or current month and A4 or US Letter, then select Print / save as PDF. In the browser print dialog, choose your printer or Save as PDF. Turn off browser headers and footers for a clean layout.
Can I use it with Google, Apple or Outlook Calendar?
Download the ICS file and import it using the calendar app’s import feature. Some services require their desktop or web version for importing files. These are all-day labels, not timed shifts: a night label marks the date the shift starts. Use a separate calendar so it is easy to replace an old import. This is a one-off file, not a live subscription; importing again can create duplicates.
Does it account for leave, swaps and overnight shifts?
The repeating pattern gives the starting dates. Add your own leave or swap changes after generating; they update the totals, print view and exports without shifting the cycle. A night is marked on its start date only. This tool does not calculate shift hours, pay, rest periods or staffing cover, and it does not receive changes from your employer. Check the output against your official rota.
Where is my rota saved?
Calculations run in your browser. Nothing you type into the generator is sent to our servers. “Save on this device” stores one rota in this browser’s local storage, only when you select it. There is no account or automatic sync. “Forget saved rota” removes that saved copy. Downloads remain wherever you save them. Normal website hosting request logs still apply; see our privacy information.
